I'm uncomfortable with a .5 game lead over the Twins and a 1 game lead over the Yankees for the Wild Card. for those of you who are reading to learn about sports, that's not great. I also don't think Manny is leaving... (yet)
yesterday I got Sports Illustrated in the mail. I love getting mail. I forgot I got a free subscription when I signed up for MLB gameday at the beginning of July. in my early-mid teen years I had subscriptions to SI, SI Kids, ESPN Magazine, Chop Talk (the Atlanta Braves magazine), Red Sox Magazine and Cat Fancy... you know, the typical magazines for cool teenage girls.
on page 5 there's a section called the 'SI Vault' that has a blurb about a Sports Illustrated issue of the past. this one has a picture of the cover from May 25, 1998.
I remember that issue and the interview with Mike Piazza. I remember being shocked that he swore. he also said something about the pimple he had between his eyes and called himself a cyclops. the fact that Mike Piazza had pimples made me feel like I could relate to him.
I hadn't thought about Mike Piazza in a while.
also, there's way too much fantasy sports in SI.
since when do fantasy sports count as sports? there's also like a full page in the Metro on fantasy sports now.

activities
yesterday I was riding my bike around JP and I saw the guy from Revolution who fixed my bike. he waved and looked proud. I even rode one-handed for a bit while I drank my iced coffee... that was actually more nerve racking than I thought it would be.
Emily and I played tennis at Stony Brook. I felt rusty and my forearm is still tired. but I'm optimistic that I can be in full form soon. and my muscles look huge. anyone want to play tennis?
Friday I went out in a Mercury sailboat on the Charles. for a little while Rob, Katie, and I were under the Longfellow Bridge. even though we weren't supposed to be under there it felt cool to be in a place that not too many people had been. some little flakes of the underside of the bridge fell on me. I put a piece of it in my pocket to take home. I wonder how many people have touched the underside of that bridge...
a few weeks ago I didn't even know words like boom vang existed. now I use them like a life-long sailor (almost).

kids r not us
summer is the time of year that most reminds me of being a kid. my summers revolved around a few things.... 1. our swimming pool 2. playing in the yard/woods 3. ice cream man (his name was Scott, I wonder where he is now...) for a couple summers the trampoline probably made the top 3.... when we thought we grew out of the ice cream man, oh how little we knew.
is it weird that I would be content if that was my summer 08? I would even downgrade to a sprinkler if it meant I had no cares in the world.
Summer 1989. I'm twice the size of Shannon.
Summer 2008. Biff is the size of 3-4 kittens.
do you think animals ever look at younger ones and think "I wish I was still a kitten/ insert appropriate youngster terminology here"?
fond summer memories of yesteryear...
06 - ice cream man
07 - big swimming pool
08 - playing in the woods

amherst today.
long drive today.
good lunch today.
-sandwich, chips, pie, fresh-squeezed lemonade (i watched them make it) - only $10.
sometimes it's really nice to leave the city. and not just because stuff is cheaper out here.
i ordered a violin piece today that i've been wanting to play for 10 years. i wonder if it's as good as i've imagined. whenever i hear violin music i imagine myself playing it and i move my fingers on my right hand along with the music. but when you play it's the fingers on the left hand that move. i wonder why my right hand moves when i'm listening.
the red sox are bums.
shannon sent me pictures of her trial wedding hair. it's lovely. last night i had a dream that it was her wedding and no one would let me use a bathroom to get ready. i have had this dream 3 times now.

Food Stamps
I've been going here way too often. It's addictive. For about a 3 week period this spring I didn't want to eat anything but pad thai. I'm hoping next week (week 3 of Berry Line Mania) I'll get over my yogurt cravings.
I go here like every morning...
...unless I go to Hot Off the Press because they have chocolate milk you can add to your iced coffee. It's delicious. Oh I got one more stamp this afternoon when I had lunch with Patti. Next time I go to HOTP I get $5 off, hooray!
This is often where I eat in Newport. After a few trips there I realized it wasn't very good so ever since I've been going for the stamps. Now the card has been full for about 2 months and I haven't claimed my free Panini yet.
The cafes/ coffeehouses I go to in JP don't have frequent eater cards... Food for thought. And there's no fast food. hmmm.

a couple notes on Cambridge
Berry Line is my new favorite thing about Cambridge.
at first I resisted because the soft serve is not ice cream. I think it's yogurt, but probably in large part air because it has hardly any calories or nutritional properties. like spray butter.
about a month ago I was waiting for the 1 bus in Central Square and a guy also waiting for the bus (who did not appear homeless or crazy) took off his pants and put on a different pair. then a week later I saw a lady at Savers take off her pants in the middle of the store and try on another pair. then yesterday at the Central Square bus stop, a guy (who I guess was getting tired of waiting for the bus) took off his pants and walked out into traffic. he didn't get hit but apparently wasn't too worried about anything. you know how I know? he was barefoot the whole time..gross.

your food is baloney
you know how the smell of deli meat pops up everywhere? I've been at shows, bars, walking down the sidewalk, etc. and all of a sudden there's that odeur de bologna. where does it come from? I was on the t a few days ago when that familiar scent wandered through. I thought it's origin would remain a mystery, as usual. then the crowd parted and I saw a girl eating..... a lunchables.
ew. ewskies. I didn't even know people still ate those. I believe people ate them at one point, because I definitely begged my mom to buy them for me when I was younger. ("but mommm pleeeease, you won't have to make my lunch anymore!!!!")
then it got worse. she stacked a lil sandwich and fed it to her boyfriend. gah! I threw up in my mouth. after the initial horror wore off I started wondering if people everywhere are making slimy meat sandwiches and this is just the first time I saw it.
hmm more food for thought.
while we're on the topic of gross food, I'd like to talk about my younger sister's diet....
here is a snapshot of our freezer:
did you think you saw a bag that said Fun Nuggets? yes you did.
who has this much goldfish in their house?
this much mac n cheese?
I wish Emily hadn't drank all of the Sunny D because I would've included a photo of that as well. I bet the next time she goes to the grocery store she's going to buy lunchables.
when I take the T from Tim's house in the morning, the T stop has this inside:
I think they sell donuts.
last night I heard a Spank Rock song (Bump) on a salad dressing commercial. I wonder if the Wishbone execs know the lyrics to that song.....

What About Blog?
I know I've been slacking on my blogging.
It's hard to keep up with blogspot, flickr, myspace, facebook, second life, plus sometimes real life.
now I have to maintain a blog, flickr, myspace, and website for my work.
in real life news, Tim leaves for Italy tomorrow.
this is how we say goodbye:
that's a lot of Chilis.
