after amherst i brought my violin to get a "tune up" at the violin shop near symphony. i wonder if that is where the term "tune up" came from. literally tuning an instrument. hmm.
the guy who owns the shop is exactly what i pictured... older, short russian man with white hair and small, round glasses. mr. rutman. just by looking at the strings he could tell the last time i had replaced them (6 years ago) you're supposed to change them every 6-8 months.
the ol' fiddle needs a bunch of work done. mr. rutman said the projection was flawed since construction but "the rest of the instrument is not completely incompetent."
